Recipe | Turmeric and Black Pepper Hummus

You’ve probably worked it out by now, we LOVE turmeric. It’s got more amazing healing properties than we can fit into this description and is a part of our every day diet here at Eatable. Did you know that it’s possible to enhance the benefits of turmeric by pairing it with black pepper? It’s no surprise that black pepper and turmeric are key ingredients in many curries… talk about the innate wisdom of Ayurveda! This combination of black pepper and turmeric is not only good for your health, but it’s a delicious way to pimp your hummus. The recipe is vegan, gluten-free, soy-free and corn-free.
You Will Need
A blender OR food processor OR a handheld mixer
A knife
A chopping board
Ingredients
1 tsp fresh turmeric or turmeric power
1/2-1 tsp fresh ground black pepper (depending on your peppery preference)
A pinch of cumin
1 clove of garlic peeled and diced
1 cup cooked chickpeas
Juice from 1 Lemon
3-4 tbs olive oil
1 tbs tahini
Salt to taste
Method
1. Place all ingredients in your blender (or a bowl if using a hand-held mixer) and combine until you reach a smooth consistency.
Tip: If needed, add water a tablespoon at a time to keep things moving in your blender.
2. Remove from the blender and place into a jar to store in the fridge, or serve immediately with your favourite chopped veggies or salad.
Tip: If you are like us and always manager to get turmeric EVERYWHERE use some lemon to help remove the stains from your benchtops and life in general.
